Mekhi Phifer Files for Bankruptcy
The former ER star lists more than $1.3 million in debts
Actor Mekhi Phifer has filed for bankruptcy.
The Divergent star, 39, listed debts of $1.3 million – with $1.2 million of that figure owed in back taxes. The rest of his debt, according to TMZ, which first reported the filing, includes $50,000 in legal fees and about $4,500 in back child support.
Phifer, a Harlem native who starred for six years as Dr. Gregory Pratt on ER, listed $67,000 in assets, including a Segway, three firearms and a leather bed. In his filing, he noted that his monthly expenses total about $11,600, far more than his monthly earnings, which he said were $7,500.
The twice-married father of two also appeared on the Fox crime drama Lie to Me and launched a film promotion company, Third Reel Films, in 2011.
