Megalyn Echikunwoke Says She Is 'Definitely Not' Engaged to Boyfriend Chris Rock
Chris Rock's girlfriend opened up about her relationship with the 51-year-old funny man
Echikunwoke talked to PEOPLE about her relationship with her comedian beau in an interview at Showtime’s Emmy Eve Party at the Sunset Tower Hotel on Saturday night.
Even though she has been wearing a ring on that finger, the 33-year-old actress said it’s not what everyone thinks.
“Definitely not,” she said when asked about the rumors that it is an engagement ring. “Oh no, am I going to get in trouble for this? Why would anyone think that? I’ve never worn an engagement ring. This right here is my alleged engagement ring, which is obviously not an engagement ring so just an FYI. It’s a pearl. It’s not even a diamond.”
And while she was initially coy about her relationship with Rock, 51, Echikunwoke eventually opened up about her romance.
“What can I say? I have a boyfriend,” she said. “He’s a comedian. He’s funny. He’s really wonderful. He’s a very dreamy guy, and I’m a lucky girl.”
As for getting married some day?
“I’m actually not a huge believer in marriage,” she said. “If he made a really good case for it, I guess … I guess there’s this misconception about once you’re engaged how could you possibly want anything more than marriage and kids. It’s kind of like lock down a rich guy. I’m here to say that there’s more to life than that, and this common lame notion that that’s all a girl could possibly want in life is completely bulls–t. So, I mean, I have a boyfriend who I love and that’s all I need.”
Rock and Echikunwoke took their relationship public when they were first spotted together at Clive Davis’s 40th annual pre-Grammy Awards gala in February.

Echikunwoke also talked about her upcoming project, Jamie Foxx‘s Showtime comedy White Famous.
“I don’t get to work with Jamie in the pilot, but hopefully during the season I will. And I’m excited to work with Jay [Pharoah]. I also have a son in the pilot, which is exciting because I’ve never played a mother, so I’m excited about that.”
