The now-you-see-it, now-you-don’t relationship between Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe is very much alive and well, reports PEOPLE magazine in its cover story for Oct. 9. The New Zealand-born, Aussie-bred Crowe, 36, and the all-American Ryan, 38, who last March warmed to each other on the set of their movie “Proof of Life,” spent a couple of weeks together Down Under last month, touring Crowe’s stomping grounds and taking in the atmosphere around the Sydney Games, says PEOPLE. Since Ryan and “Frequency” actor Dennis Quaid, 46, announced an end to their nine-year marriage last June 28, she and Crowe have kept a low profile, though photographs of the two holding hands and smooching did surface — as did reports that she and Quaid had plans to reconcile. (Quaid was the one who first filed for divorce, on July 11, though Ryan soon filed her own claim. Both cited “irreconcilable differences” and are seeking joint custody of their son, Jack Henry, 8.) Dennis’s half-brother, Buddy Quaid, says that that there was never any foundation to those stories about reconciliation. As for Dennis, he’s rebounded nicely, his pal Beau Holden tells PEOPLE. “He’s the kind of guy who makes the best of what’s dealt. It’s not like he had a choice in this.”
