It’s the question very few people have asked: What would Mean Girls be like if it was set in Middle Earth?

Fortunately, the Internet was created expressly for the purpose of creating hilarious things no one knew they wanted, and so now we have “Mean Elves,” an animated short that re-imagines the trailer for the classic high-school movie as if it took place in the magical world of J.R.R. Tolkien. Dwarves are geeks, humans are burnouts and those vicious, manipulative Plastics are played by the elves of Mirkwood. They even have the same hairstyles!

The video comes courtesy of YouTube cartoonist OnlyLeigh, an expert on unconventional pop-culture mashups. (Two words: “Thorested Development.”) Watch the clip below, and then wonder if Peter Jackson might ever call up Tina Fey for a quick rewrite session.
