Susie Underpants got the last laugh.

It’s been 20 years since Julia Roberts guest-starred in an episode of Friends that saw her character, Susie Moss, fake a hook-up with Matthew Perry‘s Chandler Bing to get revenge on him for a childhood prank. And it turns out that Thursday would have been the day Bing called Moss with an olive branch.

“I was called Susie Underpants ’til I was 18!” Roberts-as-Moss tells Perry-as-Bing after she’s left him pantless in a bathroom stall. The revenge scheme starts with a hookup, but ends with her telling him, “Why don’t you call me in 20 years if you’re still upset about this?”

Thursday would have been 20 years to the day.

The pair’s romance continued offscreen as well: Perry and Roberts were seen on a number of dates in 1996, PEOPLE reported at the time.

Their romance, however, was not love at first sight. “When the two were introduced last year,” PEOPLE reported, “the only shared passion they expressed was for his hit sitcom.” But despite confirmation from both of their camps that they were dating, we know now things weren’t meant to be, and the writing was probably on the wall from the beginning.

“They had fun together,” a Friends source said at the time. “It’s casual,” a Roberts friend echoed.

Ah, what might have been.
