Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey knows a thing or two about being sexy.

Crowned Sexiest Man Alive in 2005, the Texas-bred star insists the best part about the years since has been “customizing my life and priorities,” he tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. “And getting rid of the lagniappe.”

McConaughey, 46, picks Anthony Hopkins as this year’s dark horse for the crown but has words of wisdom for whoever graces the cover: “Remember, it’s like being a president,” he says. “So as long as you’re ‘alive,’ you’ve still got the title.”
