Just like Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, another A-list couple are proving that breakups really can be amicable.

A day after PEOPLE exclusively confirmed that Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy called off their engagement, the Muse frontman, 36, broke his silence about the split.

“Love all of you guys!” he tweeted. “We’re both very happy, it’s for the best. Thanks for your kind words. Now about that new album ”

The couple were last spotted together publicly on Nov. 21 at Hudson’s mother Goldie Hawn’s Love In for Kids charity event in Los Angeles. They have one son together, Bingham Hawn Bellamy, born in July 2011.

“Kate and Matt have been separated for some time now,” the actress’s rep told PEOPLE on Monday. “Despite this, they remain very close friends and committed co-parents.”

The singer proposed in April 2011 shortly before their son was born, but the two never set a date for the big day.

“My parents aren’t married,” Hudson, 35, told Women’s Health “And one of the reasons why they never got married is because they had been married before and they liked it the way it was. They didn’t feel like they needed a piece of paper to be committed.”
