Mark Salling: 'Glee' Cast's Prayers Are with Becca Tobin After Boyfriend's Death

"I can't help but associate that feeling with what we went through," he says, referring to costar Cory Monteith's passing

Glee actor Mark Salling is reaching out to costar Becca Tobin after her boyfriend was found dead last week.

“Losing someone that close – I’ve honestly never been through anything like that, so the most someone like myself can do is offer my condolences,” Salling, 31, told PEOPLE on Saturday while attending Just Jared’s Summer Fiesta at Pink Taco in West Hollywood. “That’s a tough one.”

Matt Bendik, 35, was in Philadelphia on a business trip with Tobin, 28, when the nightlife entrepreneur s body was discovered at the couple’s hotel Thursday afternoon. His cause of death is unknown.

For Salling, the tragedy is a reminder of another Glee costar’s passing: Cory Monteith died of a drug overdose in Vancouver on July 13, 2013. He was also found in a hotel room.

“Our prayers are with you,” Salling said of Tobin, “and with what we went through a year ago with Cory – it’s still fresh wounds, and I can’t help but associate that feeling with what we went through. But she’s such a strong girl, so she’ll be all right.”
