He’s brash, he’s outspoken, he knows a thing or two about closing a deal, but who knew businessman Mark Cuban had such a handle on making a dream wedding come true?

Newly married couple Monica and Leroy Wilkinson of Watauga, Texas, know. That’s because the Dallas billionaire star of ABC’s Shark Tank, owner of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks and the head of network paid for their April wedding, reports, Channel 8 news in Dallas.

“I got a call from his assistant,” Monica told the station. “And she said Mark Cuban was going to help pay for our wedding. And I was completely floored. I thought it was a joke.”

The couple had been planning a wedding since 2009 and were struggling financially. They suffered heartbreaking disappointments as they tried to have a family – Monica had a series of miscarriages and was diagnosed earlier this year with Stage 4 ovarian cancer, reported the station. She is now undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

“Now we actually have those memories that can actually get us through,” Monica said in the report of their wedding day. “I can go back and have those pictures now and have a reason to smile. Because I got to feel special and it was all thanks to Mark Cuban.”

Cuban declined to comment when contacted about the story. In an interview with PEOPLE in 2004, Cuban admitted that he would feel emotionally overwhelmed if he met everyone he anonymously helped.

“If there is a scenario where the only problem is money, I try to fix that,” he said in the interview. “[But] I’d die if I got emotionally connected.”
