Marilyn's Wedding Suit Sold

The elegant white-mink-trimmed suit that Marilyn Monroe wore to San Francisco’s City Hall in 1954 when she married Joe DiMaggio fetched a whopping $33,350 at Sotheby’s New York Thursday night. A private American collector placed the winning bid over the telephone — as the audience applauded. The suit was expected to have fetched a mere $20,000. Meanwhile, in London yesterday, the lyrics for John Lennon’s “I Am the Walrus” sold for $129,000 in an auction at Christie’s. The lyric sheet, which contains 20 lines of the 1967 Beatles classic (as well as some notes by Lennon), also went to an anonymous telephone bidder.
