It didn’t take long for Mariah Carey to show she’s still got it.

The singer, 45, kicked off her Las Vegas residency Wednesday night at Caesars Palace by poking a little fun at her reputation – and then proving beyond any doubt that she can still bring the house down with her huge range and high notes.

“I’m doing my best to be a diva this evening,” she joked, as she blew through all 18 of her No. 1 hits, plus her new song, "Infinity," in a show that was every bit as nostalgic as it was current.

It was all the Mariah any fan could want, spanning her chart toppers in chronological order, beginning with “Vision of Love,” her first No. 1 from way back in 1990. She also had six costume changes and one hair change during the hour-and-45-minute show.

Carey talked from time to time, mostly in introducing songs – at one point she said she originally didn’t want to sing “Hero.”

But the self-proclaimed diva summed it up best in opening the show when she asked fans, “Are you feeling lucky tonight? I’m about to take you on a journey from No. 1 to ‘Infinity.’ I’m so happy to be here with you tonight.”

Mariah #1 to Infinity runs through July at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
