Marco Rubio Rips Jeb Bush's 'Phony Attacks' in New Ad, Ben Carson Pokes Fun of 'Liberal Media': GOP Candidates' Pre-Debate Tweets

The GOP presidential hopefuls are reaching into their bag of Twitter tricks as they gear up for Tuesday night’s Republican debate in Milwaukee.

After The New York Times reported that a Jeb Bush super PAC threatened to spend as much as $20 million to take down his former mentee Marco Rubio, the Florida senator beat the group to the punch – taking to Twitter on Tuesday to release a video compilation of the many times Bush has praised and endorsed him.

“What Marco has, I think, is something that the Republican party needs to have, which is a hopeful, optimistic message based on our principles,” a voiceover by Bush says in the clip.

Other Bush soundbites include: “I’m a huge Marco fan” (twice) and “He’s probably the most articulate conservative on the scene today, and [has] the fortitude to be a good president.”

Rubio tweeted along with the clip, “@jebbush was a ‘HUGE Marco fan’ before getting ready to spend $20M on phony attacks.”

Bush has yet to respond to the video. He used his pre-debate Twitter time to invite followers to join his “GOP debate team” and buy “Jeb! 2016” T-shirts.

Elsewhere on the Internet, Ben Carson released an attack video of his own – against the “liberal media.”

“The campaign staff wanted to make sure to stay ahead of any ‘breaking stories’ in the news today. #BC2DC16,” the former neurosurgeon tweeted along with a video of his staffers posing as members of the media and reporting hypothetical stories such as: “When he was a child, witnesses say that Dr. Ben Carson used to occasionally color outside the lines,” and, “The first time Ben went golfing, he didn’t replace the divot,” and “During residency, Ben once offended a cupcake by calling it a muffin.”

Carly Fiorina tweeted a new video titled “What Makes a True Leader,” in which she takes aim a politicians on both sides of the aisle for failing to follow through with their promises to the public.

“Every election we hear a lot of talk, a lot of good plans, we hear actually a lot of good intentions, but somehow for decades nothing really has changed,” Fiorina says in the ad, which shows clips of former presidents and current contenders talking about their “plans.” “Anybody can write a plan. How often to politicians put out detailed plans? How often do they get enacted? Never. That’s the problem. What we need now is a proven leader who has produced results.”

Meanwhile, fallen front-runner Donald Trump spent much of the day retweeting his biggest fans and thanking them for their support.

Ted Cruz tweeted a video honoring the “most talked about moment from the last debate” – the moment when Cruz himself lashed out at the moderators for failing to ask “the substantive issues people care about.”

And John Kasich took to Twitter to share a video of himself warming up for the debate by shooting hoops with the Milwaukee Bucks.

For the first time this cycle, the prime-time GOP debate will feature only eight of the surviving 15 Republican candidates. Chris Christie has been bumped off to the undercard debate, leaving the remaining main-stage candidates (in order): Trump, Carson, Rubio, Bush, Cruz, Fiorina, Kasich and Rand Paul.
