Marc & Jennifer's Newlywed Life
Anthony and Lopez treat guests to an impromptu duet at the surprise 36th birthday party she threw for him at his Brookville, N.Y., home on Sept. 16, 2004. Anthony, who admitted to suspecting the worst when he noticed Lopez making secret phone calls, said: "I owe my wife an apology. I'm going to be making it up to her for at least two weeks."
Besides being in sync as a newly married couple, Lopez and Anthony (sharing a private moment at Miami nightclub Mansion), at the time, were collaborating on El Cantante, the biopic of salsa singer Hector Lavoe.
"I think she's been waiting for someone like this all her life," a friend says of Lopez (watching her new husband perform at Universal Radio, just two weeks after their low-key June 5, 2004, nuptials at her Beverly Hills estate).
The couple take in the runway action at the Marc Jacobs Spring 2005 show, during New York City's Fashion Week. But Anthony seemed to have eyes only for his wife of three months.
"It was one of those nights where everyone let their hair down," says a friend of Lopez's 35th birthday party on July 24, 2004, at Santa Monica club the Space. The gathering of family and friends merged with a wrap party for Lopez's romantic comedy Monster-in-Law.
Though her ability to rule the red carpet hasn't changed (as she does at the 2004 World Music Awards in Las Vegas), Lopez no longer gushes about her personal life to the press. "Marc is really private," explains a pal, "and I think it is rubbing off on her."
MARC HIS WORDS
Anthony's then-new Spanish-language pop album, Amar Sin Mentiras (To Love Without Lies), features a duet with Lopez, "Escapemonos" ("Let's Escape"). In the CD's liner notes, the singer (onstage at the World Music Awards) calls her his "endless inspiration," adding, "My life has been one of dreams since the second you walked through that door."
Lopez and Anthony make the scene at a party in New York City on Sept. 12, 2004. The couple even invited Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (not pictured), whom they hadn't met before, to join them at their table.
Anthony and Lopez (in a Stella McCartney dress and Tracey Watts hat) opted not to walk the red carpet together at the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards in Miami, but they openly held hands in the green room and in the audience.
The elegant couple head to the New York City premiere of Lopez's film Shall We Dance? on Oct. 5, 2004. The duo teamed up on the song "Sway" for the movie's soundtrack. "It was a beautiful friendship," says Anthony's sister Yolanda Santa Maria of his relationship with Lopez. "Now they can confide in each other for life."
