Malia Obama is all grown up.

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama‘s eldest daughter celebrates her milestone 16th birthday on a significant day for the nation: July 4.

She was only 10 when she entered the spotlight, and many can’t forget her adoring “I love you, Daddy!” at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Like other First Children before her (including Chelsea Clinton), Malia had to face her most awkward teenage years in the public eye.

Over the years, she’s sported different hairstyles, including a curly ‘do that drew much attention, and even had to deal with pesky braces.

But at 16, the maturing young woman has developed a more polished look. Then again, she has one of the best style influences in the country – her always-elegant mother.
