The city registrar in Dornoch, Scotland, has told Reuters that the papers are in place for Madonna to marry movie director Guy Ritchie. “There is a notice on the board in the council offices,” Dornoch registrar Leslie Conner told the news service. On its Web site, the BBC is currently displaying a photo of the entry in the registrar’s book. It reads that Guy Stuart Ritchie will marry Madonna Louise Ciccone on 22/12/2000. Among the likely settings for the event, say both Reuters and the BBC, are the historic (and Protestant) Dornoch Cathedral, near Inverness (for the ceremony), and Skibo Castle, once owned by American industrialist Andrew Carnegie, on Scotland’s northeast coast (for the reception). The castle has served as a hideaway for such other celebrities as Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, Sean Connery, Jack Nicholson and Bill Gates. Madonna, 42, and Ritchie, 32, whose son Rocco was born last August, reportedly inspected both Scottish properties in the past few weeks. A spokesman for Skibo Castle would not comment on whether or not Madonna has made any plans for the facility. The BBC does report, however, that Ritchie has placed an order for a full Highland outfit (kilt and all) of Hunting MacIntosh dress tartan from London’s Scotch House, a fashionable shop near Harrods.
