Lost photos of Madonna reveal that she has always had that certain je ne sais quoi, even before she was a pop star.

A selection of never-before-seen photos of Madonna will appear in Playboy‘s May issue, on newsstands April 17. Taken in 1979 during a shoot with Martin H.M. Schreiber, four images from the session appeared in the magazine’s September 1985 issue.

The rare images will also appear in Schreiber’s new book, A Retrospective 1966-2014.

The above clothed image from the shoot is captivating – the Queen of Pop, then 20, looks regal even prior to her coronation (and she bears a striking resemblance to daughter Lourdes).

Now 56, Madonna released her latest album, Rebel Heart, in March.
