Madonna and Beau Pick Unlikely Vacation Spot
It's not St. Tropez or Cannes, but little, rainy Guéthary on the French coast
St. Tropez and Cannes are usually what come to mind as celebrity getaways on the French Riviera. But Guéthary?
Well, apparently it’s good enough for Madonna.
The little ocean village on the south Atlantic coast – pop. barely more than 1,600 – is frequently wet even in summer, yet this is where the pop priestess, who just turned 53, and her 24-year old dancer boyfriend Brahim Zaibat have been seen vacationing since Tuesday evening, when they flew into nearby Biarritz from London.
On Wednesday, dressed in matching black exercise gear, the couple were photographed on mountain bikes around the village’s cycling paths before joining up with Madonna’s daughter Lourdes, 14, at a beach close to the village port.
Mother and daughter then went largely unrecognized while browsing among the seafront vendors.
Local sources indicate that the singer has rented a vacation home with pool and gardens, with the plan to stay for two weeks. And, according to a spokesperson in the local Tourist Office, “Everyone in town is asking themselves: ‘Why?’ ”
“We have three hotels, six small restaurants and no nightclub,” he says. “We’re known for our three surfing beaches, but besides from that there’s nothing. Only reason she would come here for … is … is the quiet.”
