Lydia Hearst Reveals Chris Hardwick's Romantic Proposal: Orchids, Candles ... and a Candy Ring
"I'm just excited to spend my life with the man of my dreams," Hearst told PEOPLE
The real thing, Hearst’s grandmother’s ring, was quickly retrieved.
“It needs to be resized,” Hearst told PEOPLE Saturday at the National Women’s History Museum’s fourth annual Women Making History Brunch in Los Angeles.
And that candy ring? “I’m actually getting it framed,” she said.
Chris Hardwick Makes an Escape Plan for the Zombie Apocalypse
Just a week ago, the 31-year-old actress and heiress walked into a room full of flowers – and a life-changing question.
Hardwick “opened the door and the whole floor was covered in purple rose petals and there were bouquets of wild flowers and orchids all over the room,” Hearst said. “It was dimly lit with candles and he proposed. He got on one knee and gave me a candy ring.”
Hearst said she is still processing it.
“Honestly, I’m over the moon and I’m still in shock. I’m so fortunate to be marrying the man of my dreams,” she said. “I knew that I was completely in love with him and he’s the love of my life, but who knew what the future held? Then he swept me off my feet and asked me to marry him.”
Hearst said they plan to be married in a year or so, and it sounds like they may already have a wedding planner.
“My mom [Patty] knows how to plan weddings,” Hearst said. “And she loves Chris and can’t wait to welcome him into the family. She wants to make it a celebration and as little stress as possible on me and Chris.”
Though they were initially thinking a small wedding, Hearst said it’s now “going to be a massive celebration.”
But no kids, she told PEOPLE with a laugh. Not yet.
“There will be babies, but not until after the wedding,” she said.
