This is one incredible throwback.

At 17, Lorde is already a hit maker and Grammy winner, but as this newly surfaced audio proves, she was impressing long before she stepped onto the global stage.

In 2009, the singer performed a stunning rendition of the Kings of Leon tune “Use Somebody” during an interview with Radio New Zealand.

Then know as 12-year-old Ella Yelich-O’Connor, she revealed that her singing career was a new development in her growth as an artist.

“I do drama,” she said.

“I’ve been acting since I was 6, but we did a musical this year, which I sang in and that was the first time I’ve really sung onstage.”

Fast-forward to five years later: While she’s not starring in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, she’s curating the film’s soundtrack and wrote and recorded the movie’s title track,”Yellow Flicker Beat.”

“The cast and story are an inspiration for all musicians participating, and as someone with cinematic leanings, being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience,” the singer said in a statement. “I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people.”
