Hot on the heels of her announcement yesterday that she’s leaving “Live with Regis & Kathie Lee” in July, Kathie Lee Gifford has been basking in the spotlight. On today’s show, sidekick Regis Philbin asked Kathie Lee if she had anything to add to yesterday’s pronouncement. In jest, Kathie Lee answered: “It was a joke.” But seriously, Regis quoted a friend of the show’s, radio and TV astrologer Howard Sheldon, as saying that Gifford was about to enter a wonderful new 12-year personal and professional cycle. Another Howard, shock jock Stern, yesterday used a New York press conference for his new FX sitcom “Son of the Beach” to comment on his favorite TV target. “Kathie Lee announced today that she is leaving the Regis and Kathie Lee show because she is doing it for her children, she wants to keep them out of the limelight. The only person putting them in the limelight is Kathie Lee. I really don’t care. (But) it seems to me that if she would take them off the magazine covers, remove them from all the network specials and the Christmas specials, none of us would ever see Cody and Cassidy.” Kathie Lee said today that she doesn’t care if her kids are reported on, so long as papers get their stories right.
