Producer Martin Poll, who made the original 1968 movie “The Lion in Winter,” is going to remake the historical drama. The original, based on a Broadway play by James Goldman (who also did the 1968 screenplay), starred Peter O’Toole as King Henry II and won an Academy Award for his co-star Katharine Hepburn, who played Eleanor of Acquitaine. Pat O’Connor, who directed last year’s movie version of “Dancing at Lughnasa,” will direct the new version, says Variety. But who can possibly fill the shoes of O’Toole and the great Kate? (Thursday night on Broadway a new production of the play, starring Laurence Fishbourne and Stockard Channing, opened to mixed reviews.) The PEOPLE Daily has learned that Kevin Spacey is interested in the role of Henry, and the possibility exists that Nicole Kidman will play Eleanor.
