Who says morning commutes are mundane?

The cast of Broadway’s The Lion King recently stepped onto a New York City subway car to give straphangers a stunning surprise. The performers spread throughout the car and blended in with the regular commuters – until they opened their mouths.

In the video, people who appear to be random travelers reading books or listening to music suddenly burst into song and fill the train with the sweet sounds of the show’s opening number, “Circle of Life.”

Caught off-guard at first, the other subway riders soon realize they are in the middle of a true “only in New York moment” and whip out their phones to capture the magic.

This isn’t the first time a Lion King crew has pulled off a surprise musical number. The show’s Australian cast entertained a commercial flight with an impromptu performance in April.
