As Lily-Rose Depp steps closer to adulthood, the daughter of actress Johnny Depp and model Vanessa Paradis remains close to her famous parents while she embarks on an acting and modeling career all her own.
The teen is ringing in her 17th birthday on Friday in Los Angeles, just one day after arriving stateside at the same time her mom is in the city.
But with a Chanel contract, two major films under her belt, and 1.4 million (and growing) Instagram followers, Lily-Rose is not your average teenager.
Lily-Rose most recently walked the Cannes Film Festival red carpet for her upcoming film The Dancer, and stars in the horror-comedy Yoga Hosers, due to open July 29. (Depp, 52, also appears in the project.)
“For me, it’s simple: I like to act,” she has said of her burgeoning career. “It frees me. I want to make it my craft.”
But just as she’s paving her own way in the acting world, she’s also making a name in the fashion industry.
Following in her model mother’s footsteps, the teen made her modeling debut last August for Chanel, and was just named the new face of the fashion empire’s No. 5 L’Eau.
Her immersion, she says, is due in part to growing up watching her famous parents’ work: “I was backstage at my mother’s concerts; on [my father’s] films, as well as my mother’s.”
A source told PEOPLE that Depp and Paradis support her career: “They’ll offer her advice when she needs it. They give her the space, the freedom, she needs.”
Meanwhile, the teen has been romantically linked to fellow model Ash Stymest, 24.

Earlier this month, Depp even made a special trip to visit his daughter in Paris, where a source tells PEOPLE the actor may have warned her about his impending split with Heard.
“They are a close-knit family,” a Depp source told PEOPLE this week.
