Art is imitating life at this year’s Venice Film Festival for Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts.

The real-life couple play husband and wife in The Bleeder, a ’60s-set biopic on the tumultuous life of Chuck Wepner (Schreiber), the famed heavyweight boxer who took on Muhammad Ali and who later inspired the character of Rocky Balboa in the hit 1976 film. Watts portrays his wife, Linda.

At a photo call for the film in Venice, Watts, 47, wore a floral blue-and-yellow dress with brown wedges, while Schreiber, 48, was decked out in a navy blazer and beige pants.

Watts took to Instagram on Friday to share a photo of herself en route to the festival, showing a sneak peek before she encoutered a slight sartorial mishap.

“The moment before I lost the hat… #posing #servesmeright#finderskeepers @venicefilmfestival#thebleeder,” she wrote in the post.

On Friday, Schreiber told Variety about the first time he spied his longtime partner in her costume.

“When I saw her walk out of the trailer with a red wig and big boobs and leopard skin print tights I just cracked up, and knew it was going to be good,” Schreiber said. “This is not a character close to her personality in any way. She went out on a limb, you know … But she went for it in a totally exciting way.”

Last December, Watts posted a photo of the couple’s alter egos. “Great day at the office today with #LievSchreiber on the set of#TheBleeder #ChuckAndLinda#LoveBirds #Redhead #FannyPack,” she wrote on Instagram.

The couple have been together for over a decade and have two sons together. In the past, they’ve collaborated on the films The Painted Veil and Movie 43.
