It sounds unbelievable, but if you go through Liam Payne‘s phone, you won’t find Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson or Niall Horan listed under his contacts.

“I actually don’t have any of my bandmates’ numbers, which I think is hilarious,” the One Direction singer, 22, tells PEOPLE. “I see them every day, so I don’t really need to text them.”

But now that the band – whose newest album Made in the A.M. comes out Friday (preorder here) – is set to take an extended hiatus starting in March, perhaps a group text chain is in order.

“I’ll have to get [their numbers], which is quite funny,” says Payne.

In all seriousness, Payne doesn’t expect too much to change when it comes to his close bond with his bandmates.

“We’re going to spend a lot of time together,” he says. “We’ve always been there for each other. I imagine I’ll see them quite a lot.”
