Let the Fur Fly! Your Funniest Pets
Bryan Bope of Minneapolis writes: "This year, my partner and I finally agreed on getting a cat. However, we didn't get one, we got two beautiful tabbies that we rescued from the Humane Society. As soon as I took this photo, I knew this would be my favorite of the hundreds I've taken as 8-month-old Willow grows up. It's hard to tell if he's in mid-yawn, or just laughing."
Wayne Davis of Jacksonville, Fla., writes: "This is Hiro. He loves to help clean the kitchen after dinner! In this picture he was 4 months old. [Now] he is almost 1 and around 50 lbs. – and yes, he still tries to get into the dishwasher!"
Julia Shevchenko of San Diego writes: "I'm a pet photographer and I made this picture for my friend Jay McKibben and his pug, Buster. Buster looked so cute in his Yoda costume that I decided he deserved the full montage, which made it only cuter!"
Heidi Smith of Watertown, Mass., writes: "We just relocated to Boston from Tennessee in January 2007, and couldn't wait to bring our dog Gus outside the first time it snowed. He was hysterical! He nuzzled his nose in it, started to roll around and loved when it fell on his face. It was hard to have him stay still to take the picture because he was running up and down our yard at full speed!"
Leah Wright of Blaine, Wash., writes: "This is my Yorkshire terrier, Bode! He is the little love of my life and makes me laugh on a daily basis. He has personality plus" – captured perfectly on the face of a pumpkin.
Christi Anderson of Charlotte, N.C., writes: "Hank (on top), a Weimaraner we rescued in July, spent the first three years of his life in horrible conditions and is quickly becoming part of our family. Apparently, he feels most comfortable with other dogs – including one of our other Weimaraners, Wallace."
Janet Mussey of Salisbury, N.H., writes: "This is our adopted kitten, Smokey, not long after we brought him into our family. He sleeps almost anywhere in the funniest positions, and he loves to pose for the camera! He's such a ham!"
Wilma Wells of Lake Orion, Mich., writes: "Jake, my 4-year-old Golden Retriever, has been the center of attention in our house since he was 8 weeks old. Here he is meeting the person about to take over that distinction – my first grandchild, Olivia Rose. Olivia is 6 weeks old in this picture. Jake was trying everything to get close enough to give her some loving!"
Cynthia Livingston of Roseland Park, Kan., writes: "Usually I don't consider my puppy, Miley, a complete diva, but imagine my shock when I came home to find her filing her own nails! I was only worried when I saw her nails looked better than mine."
Christine Conroy of Phoenix, Ariz., writes: "My kitty Baby – you can tell how much she loves getting dressed up [for Halloween]!"
Tracy Cooksey of Meridian, Miss., writes: "I love this picture because my little girl, Savannah, and mini-Schnauzer Duke, looked so posed. Even the [toy] dog is in the same position. You couldn't have planned this any better. They fell asleep one night and I had the camera ready!"
Brooke Hernandez of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., writes: This is Happy. She won the costume contest here in South Lake Tahoe last year as 'Spaghetti and Meatballs.' I made the costume the morning of the contest."
Susan Vaughn of Charlotte, N.C., writes: "While at work one day last spring, my husband managed to witness a friendly game of 'Cat and Mouse' between our cat, Marilyn Monroe (a Hollywood native), and her pal, the mouse. To this day, they remain friends! "
Michelle Wiseman of Ashland City, Tenn., writes: "Here is our GQ model [on Halloween!] I thought it was so cute, but of course, Rocky thought otherwise."
Sarah Chassen of Glen Rock, N.J., writes: "This is Booka, he's about 6 years old now. I snapped this while he was eating, and just happened to catch the perfect moment."
Alicia Wiechert of Champaign, Ill., writes: "Our white shepherd, Sophie, did not mind her Superman costume, but despised her goggles! Although she looks tough, she is scared of everything!"
Tien Mao of Brooklyn, N.Y., writes: "Our cat Randolph (named after one of the Duke brothers from Trading Places) jumped up into the empty paper towel package while playing fetch as we were putting rolls into the cabinets. Still a kitten, he's got an annoying yet oddly amusing habit of getting into things like fresh laundry, dryers and plastic bags, and has a nose for general mischief."
Cathy Newton of Westchester, Calif., writes: "Here are our two Labs, Wes and Nova, taking a nap in an unusual position. We adopted Nova last March as Wes seemed bored while our son went to preschool. They loved each other from the start, and like any 'couple' they pick up each other's habits."
Anna Durnovich of Conshohocken, Pa., writes "This picture is of my mom's Lab, Wiley. Swimming in the pool is his favorite thing to do!"
