Lance Bass wants his upcoming wedding to be a fashion moment for the ages.

“When the guests get their pictures from the wedding I want them to think ‘Damn, I looked good that night,’ “the former ‘NSYNC member tells PEOPLE of his impending Dec. 20 nuptials.

In fact, Bass, 35, has set the bar quite high by asking his guests to pull inspiration from two iconic fashion events when deciding what to wear to the ceremony, which will be also be televised as part of an E! special (airing Feb. 5 at 8 pm E.T.).

“We said, ‘Imagine you are going to a royal wedding but at the Met Ball,’ ” Bass says of the invitations he and fiancé Michael Turchin sent to their approximately 300 guests.

“People are going to have a lot of fun with their outfits. We hope they go over the top with tons of color,” continues Bass. “A girl could wear a wedding dress if she wanted to. That is how crazy and avant-garde this wedding could get.”
