Lamar Odom has undergone surgery, PEOPLE can confirm.

A source tells PEOPLE that the former NBA star underwent a procedure this afternoon that required general anesthesia and is said to be connected to his pneumonia.

“Lamar is in a very fragile state,” the source reveals. “The infection, that is being aggressively treated with strong intravenous antibiotics, is unfortunately not getting better. There are many concerns about his health.”

TMZ were first to report the news, claiming that he has undergone “two emergency surgeries”.

Another source tells PEOPLE of Odom’s current situation: “Everyone in the family is texting different people, telling them to pray for him. They haven’t said what is wrong with him, but everyone is very concerned.”

“They knew that there could be setbacks and complications, and that’s what we’re seeing. He’s in everyone’s prayers right now because he’s definitely not out of the woods. He’s in God’s hands,” the source adds.

The update comes after a source close to Odom, 35, told PEOPLE that he still has a long way to go in his recovery.

“Lamar still can’t stand up alone. He has to be helped to a chair right by his bed. He is receiving antibiotics for a respiratory infection. He is also still receiving dialysis,” the source said.

The former Clippers star was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center earlier this week from Las Vegas so that he could continue his recovery while receiving the “best medical treatment possible” a source told PEOPLE.

Odom then spent four days in a coma after overdosing on drugs at a Nevada Brothel. Odom was rushed to a local hospital where he was intubated before being taken to Sunrise, where he was met by his estranged wife Khloé Kardashian, 31, and other members of the Kardashian-Jenner family.
