Though he’s responsive, “he’s not out of the woods yet,” a source close to the Kardashian family tells PEOPLE.
“He still has a lot of problems with his internal organs. His kidneys are a big worry,” the source says. “He has done a lot of damage to his body.
“He will probably never be back to where he was before. Damage has been done.”
Odom, 35, was hospitalized in Las Vegas after being found unconscious in a Nevada brothel on Tuesday. He had cocaine and opiates in his system and had suffered multiple strokes, a source confirmed to PEOPLE.
“Everyone is so surprised at how he improved,” the source says. “They thought this was the end and that’s why everyone flew in to say goodbye.”
When Odom awoke Friday, he was able to communicate with Kardashian, 31, who told him, “I love you,” a source previously told PEOPLE.
“Khloé still hasn’t left his side and looks very tired,” a source previously told PEOPLE. “As soon as Lamar wakes up, she rushes over to hold his hand. She sleeps on a pullout bed next to Lamar.”
That night, Kardashian West, 34, made a post about Odom’s medical crisis, apparently referencing a visit she and Kendall made earlier that day.
“I have faith in you. I believe in the power of prayer and positive energy!” she wrote. “Thank you all for your prayers! Lammy – I’m so happy Kendall & I could make you smile today! God is good!”
“It’s miraculous,” says the Kardashian West source of Odom’s recovery so far. “God has a plan for his life.”
