Passengers aboard Delta Flight 1086, arriving in New York City around 11 a.m. Thursday from Atlanta, are thankfully all right after their plane skidded off the runway during its landing on Runway 13.
Emergency responders are on the scene, according to various reports, and all passengers and personnel have been evacuated from the plane.
The model of plane, the MD-88, holds 149 passengers; it’s not known how many were on board at the time. Several people have been Tweeting photos of the accident during the evacuation process. No major injuries have been reported.
Though not much snow has accumulated from the storm currently battering New York (about three inches), according to New York’s NBC 4, high winds, low visibility and the storm’s impact on the runway surface’s condition may have contributed to the accident. LaGuardia has been closed since the incident and is not expected to reopen until 7 p.m. Thursday.
“I felt it begin to lift and veer,” one passenger told a local Fox affiliate. [The plane] bounded across a couple of runways.”
