Kseniya Simonova's mesmerizing sand story of two lovers in WWII won the 2009 competition

With 25 million views already, a 2009 video of Kseniya Simonova’s mesmerizing sand-art performance is seeing a new boost in numbers. The clip of the 28-year-old’s Ukraine’s Got Talent appearance shows the artist using only volcanic sand and her fast-moving hands to tell the story of two lovers torn apart by World War II.

After bringing several audience members to tears, Simonova went on to win Ukraine’s Got Talent‘s top prize and earn worldwide recognition for her craft.
