Sometimes the littlest things in life can mean the most.

When Dax Shepard realized his wife Kristen Bell had put the ‘Luncheonette’ sign from the Parenthood set on the wall of their house, he was “overwhelmed,” says Bell.

“Yet another example of my wife’s unparalleled thoughtfulness,” the actor tweeted along with a photo of the sign from his character’s music studio.

Though Shepard, 40, did eventually notice Bell’s kind gesture, it took him a couple of days.

“In truth it had been up for two days, and then my little one pointed it out to him,” the actress, 35, told PEOPLE at the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s Think It Up Initiative on Friday. “He just doesn’t notice decor too often, it’s not his forte.”

Bell got the idea to put the sign to use after the NBC show had its series finale in January.

“It had been sitting in a drawer from the day Parenthood had shut its doors,” she says. “I opened the drawer and said, ‘This needs to be up on the wall.’ ”

Shepard was clearly grateful for her effort but Bell brushes it off.

“Listen, he’s a woozy,” she says, “and he’s ‘touched’ when I bring him home a chicken sandwich.”
