Inside Kourtney, Khloé and Kris Jenner's Evening at N.Y.C. Ball as Kim Kardashian Flew to Kanye West's Side

West was hospitalized Monday evening in Los Angeles for exhaustion

As Kim Kardashian West rushed back to Los Angeles after her husband Kanye West was hospitalized for exhaustion Monday evening, two of her sisters and momager Kris Jenner appeared composed and normal as they attended a black-tie gala in New York City.

Kim, 36, was expected to attend the 2016 Angel Ball, which honored her late father Robert Kardashian who died of esophageal cancer in 2003, in what would have been her first public appearance since she was robbed at gunpoint on Oct. 3 in Paris.

She flew from Los Angeles to New York City on Sunday evening in order to attend the Monday gala, but was spotted flying out of N.Y.C to head back to L.A. on Monday evening after news broke of the rapper’s hospitalization.

Kim’s family stayed in N.Y.C. and her mother, as well as sisters Khloé and Kourtney Kardashian, were all in attendance at the Angel Ball, which was held at the Cipriani Wall Street. The three stars arrived around 8:15 p.m., about 45 minutes after the event started. Their cars were swarmed by paparazzi and security — as well as protestors critiquing the stars for wearing fur.

Jenner, 61, walked the red carpet and posed for photos. Her daughters followed suit and posed together, with Khloé, 32, wearing a sparkling nude gown and Kourtney, 37, wearing a black gown with see-through cut-outs.

One onlooker asked Jenner how West, 39, was doing as she was slipping inside, to which she turned around and responded: “Exhausted!”

Once inside the event, the women took their seats at the table directly in front of the stage as news of West’s hospitalization was breaking to the media. They were joined by Jenner’s boyfriend Corey Gamble, as well as family friends Jonathan Cheban, Simon Huck, Allie Rizzo and Nicole Reda. Also at their table was Tommy Hilfiger and his wife Dee, as well as Keeping Up with the Kardashians film crew.

Despite the family turmoil, the three appeared to be in fine spirits upon arrival, and Kourtney and Khloé were seen smiling and laughing with Cheban, as well as enjoying their food while the auction took place. The three women spent most of the evening at their table, and Jenner mingled pleasantly with several guests that approached her table, including Star Jones, Lorraine Schwartz and several others. While Khloé texted on her phone, Kourtney sipped on wine and snapped pictures with her pals.

At around 10 p.m., attendees watched a compilation of home videos of the late Robert Kardashian with the family over the years as West’s song “Only One” played. Jenner was clearly emotional as the video unfolded and could be seen wiping her eyes.

Hilfiger then took the stage and introduced the family, praising the sisters as “not only global brands but … recognized personalities over the world.” Hilfiger added that “behind the cameras, they’re also a very tight knit family who work tirelessly for the causes they believe in and one has been cancer awareness.”

Jenner, Kourtney and Khloé then took the stage together, and Jenner delivered a speech thanking Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation for the honor before presenting them with a donation.

“That video was a little bit of a tough act to follow,” Jenner said. “[The Angel Ball] is one of the most rewarding things we do on an annual basis.”

Jenner fought back tears as she delivered her emotional speech, taking a moment to reflect on her late ex-husband.

“I just want to say when I met Robert Kardashian, I was 17 years old. He kind of raised me and we had four kids together… One of the things he used to teach me and then passed down to our children was about philanthropy and about giving and about doing it diligently, constantly, joyfully and generously,” she said. “He taught me and them that no matter what you do in life and what you make, you give back. And you do it without saying a word because that’s what the Bible said. And we did.”

The star and her two daughters then presented the foundation with a check for $250,000: “We just wanted to do a little something that hopefully will be the start of … a continuous donation.”

Khloé was the first one to leave after the check was presented, while Jenner and Kourtney enjoyed the evening a little longer.

As of Tuesday morning, Kourtney, Khloé and Jenner remained in N.Y.C. and took to social media to document themselves spending time with Hilfiger, 56, at what appears to be one of his showrooms.

Meanwhile, details of West’s hospitalization, which came hours after he canceled the remaining 21 dates of his Saint Pablo tour, are still emerging. A source told PEOPLE Monday evening that the rapper went to the hospital “at will under the advise of his physician” and that he is “exhausted and currently dealing with sleep deprivation.”
