When Joanna Lumley was offered the chance to kiss Leonardo DiCaprio, she did what any sane woman would do – she stocked up on mints.
There was a lot of peppermint involved,” revealed the British actress on the U.K.’s The Graham Norton Show, reminiscing about her intimate embrace in which she “went for it” with the Hollywood star in the Martin Scorsese film The Wolf of Wall Street. “We were both very clean, like a surgery.
In the Oscar-nominated film, the 70-year-old Absolutely Fabulous star plays DiCaprio’s loyal Aunt Emma and the two end up locking lips on a park bench. “We were both quite anxious about it,” confessed Lumley, who’s currently promoting her new film Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie and says she found her on-screen nephew “very charming.”
Lumley starred as Jennifer Saunders’ champagne-fuelled sidekick Patsy in the BBC sitcom Absolutely Fabulous, which began in 1990 as a comedy sketch created by Saunders and Dawn French. After a 26-year break, the pals are back with a big-screen movie, and the film has more than 60 celebrity cameos including Kate Moss, Game of Thrones‘ Gwendoline Christie and Joan Collins.
Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie hits U.S. theaters on July 22.
