The singer said "yes" to the Toronto Blue Jays lead catcher, who proposed at her family's Tennessee home
Kimberly Perry, lead singer of The Band Perry, is engaged.
Perry’s boyfriend, Toronto Blue Jays lead catcher J.P. Arencibia, proposed to the singer on Monday night.
According to The Tennessean, which first reported the news, the 27-year-old Arencibia surprised the singer, 30, at her family’s home in Greenville, Tenn., where he popped the question underneath an oak tree in the backyard.
Perry told the paper that from first time she saw the tree, she hoped that if I get proposed to in this life, I hope it happens underneath this tree.
A friend designed Perry’s 3.3.-carat emerald-cut engagement ring, which she said is her “absolute favorite.”
The couple met in February 2012 at the Florida Strawberry Field Festival and started dating a few months later. Arencibia first saw Perry in the band’s “If I Die Young” video and reportedly told her he “had this moment where he felt like that was going to be a part of his future.”
Perry, for her part, said she feels spiritually and emotionally connected to Arencibia.
“I’ve never felt that with anyone before,” she explained. “He’s just a really gentle soul. He balances me for sure.”
The couple plans to wed next summer.
