The stunning fortress, built in the late 1500s, has breathtaking views of Florence
Perhaps befitting a wedding whose details are being vigilantly guarded, a source tells PEOPLE that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West will marry at the breathtaking Forte di Belvedere in Florence – an imposing fortress dating from the 16th century that originally protected the Italian city and its Renaissance palace from attackers.
The fort, which reopened to the public in 2013 after five years of renovations, is known for its sweeping panoramas and the fabulous contemporary art exhibitions it hosts. Reports in the Italian media on Friday also pegged Belvedere as the wedding site.
Kardashian, 33, and West, 36, are thought to be spending some 300,000 euros to rent the property on the weekend of May 24. The festivities could begin with a dinner in Paris, with the guests being flown to Italy later for the nuptials.
West has spent “several days” in Florence this week, says a source, and has been meeting with Ermanno Scervino at the Italian designer’s atelier. That has fueled speculation that the bride or groom, or both, will wear his designs. (Both have donned Scervino fashions in the past, and Kardashian memorably stepped out in a lace Scervino creation in Las Vegas in October while celebrating her 33rd birthday.)
The couple were previously rumored to have chosen the opulent Chateau Louis XIV in Louveciennes, outside Paris, for the ceremony, before the revelations that it’s likely to be a multi-country affair.
