They called it quitstwice – most recently in March, but there are no hard feelings between Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush.

In fact, she’s coming to his defense as he tries to put the controversy surrounding his tarnished USC football career behind him.

“Reggie worked hard for that Heisman and deserves it. He earned it!” the reality star, 29, tells PEOPLE about the coveted college football trophy Bush won in 2005.

Bush hasn’t been ordered to return his Heisman Trophy but USC will voluntarily return its copy, which had been displayed at the school’s Heritage Hall, according to USC’s incoming president. USC will also be removing his jerseys from the campus.

An NCAA investigation ruled in June that Bush, 25, who now plays for the New Orleans Saints, had violated the association’s rules by accepting lavish gifts while playing at USC.

Kardashian, however, couldn’t disagree more with the NCAA and the school’s decision. “I really don’t think it’s fair to give it back,” she says.
