Teenage Kick-Ass star Aaron Johnson’s fiancée, who is 24 years his senior, doesn’t care if people are shocked by their age difference – and says it’s “sexist” to even make it an issue.

“The amount of men I know with the same age gap [with younger women] that we have – how come no one says anything about that?” Sam Taylor-Wood tells Harper’s Bazaar in its April issue. “It’s totally sexist. I try to ignore it.”

The British artist and filmmaker adds: “I’ve made lots of big decisions in my life that have shocked people. I’ve never really thought of other people’s opinions, so why start now?”

Johnson, 19, and Taylor-Wood, 43, have set tongues wagging with their whirlwind romance following his work in the movie Nowhere Boy, which she directed last year. They got engaged, are expecting a baby this summer and have started thinking about wedding plans, too.

Taylor-Wood says Johnson’s proposal came as “a complete surprise. He had been planning a lot longer than I had imagined. So it was incredibly romantic.”

And the couple are thrilled about their baby, due in June. “It’s fantastic,” Taylor-Wood says – particularly since it wasn’t clear if she could have more children [she has two from a previous marriage] after two bouts with cancer and chemo treatments a number of years ago. “It was a possibility, but [the doctors] couldn’t really guarantee,” she says.

And as for the wedding – well, they’re in no rush. “So many decisions,” she says. “Do we do it big and have all of our friends, or do we go small and offend all of our friends? We keep thinking about it, but then we’re like, ‘Okay, let’s go out to dinner.’ That’s the thing: not to get stressed by it, or it ruins the whole event.”

With so much going on, there isn’t much time to bother with anyone’s judgments about their relationship. “No one is hurting anyone, no one is unhappy,” Taylor-Wood says. “It’s just the outside world that feels they have to remark. And you can’t listen to it.”
