Kevin Costner Talks about Fatherhood after 50
"I hope I have as much energy," he jokes about raising his fifth child
Fatherhood for the fifth time at age 52 is shaping up as another adventure for Mr. Brooks star Kevin Costner.
“I hope I have as much energy for Cayden as I had for my first,” Costner says of his son born May 6 to wife Christine. “My fundamental fear is that my new baby, someone will else raise him, meaning that my life will end prematurely. I won’t get to coach him in what I think it is to be a man. I’d like to be the person that tells him about life.”
Asked what he’s learned in his 22 years of fatherhood, Costner joked, “I can fake like I’m asleep longer so I don’t have to do as many diapers.”
Month-old Cayden joins Costner’s son Liam, 10, from a previous relationship, and children Anne, 22, Lily, 20, and Joe, 19, from Costner’s first marriage.
Costner married Christine Baumgartner, 33, in Sept. 2004 at the couple’s Aspen ranch after dating for six years. He was divorced from his first wife, Cindy Silva, in 1994. Cayden is Baumgartner’s first child.
