In the midst of a contentious legal battle with Sony and producer Dr. Luke, Kesha surprised festival goers at Coachella with a surprise performance Saturday night.

After singing “True Colors” during Zedd‘s set, the star made her way over to Neon Carnival, sponsored by Levi’s, Re/Done and Tequila Don Julio, with a group of friends, a source tells PEOPLE exclusively.

Wearing a big cowboy hat and a denim jacket, the singer – who abstained from drinking at the party – was approached by tons of fans who saw her perform.

“A lot of them were coming up to her talking about how inspirational her performance was with Zedd,” says the source. “She said she was super happy he asked her to be there.”

Kesha is next slated to perform at Dylan Fest in Nashville, Tennessee, in May.
