Kendall and Kylie Jenner have taught us all a lot over the years – the importance of lip liner, how to take the perfect Instagram picture, why flats are totally overrated – but their most valuable life lessons have all come on the topic of sisterhood.
Whether they’re showing off their envy-inspiring closets, jetting off on glamorous sibling vacations … or simply reveling in the fact that they pretty much define #SisterGoals, birthday girl Kendall and Kylie are pretty much role models for siblings everywhere. And, thanks to them, we’ll all hopefully be better sisters/people, too.
1. There’s no such thing as too much quality time.
Chilling at home? Attending a glamorous party? Hitting the town for a girls’ night out? Rocking out at a Kanye West concert? It doesn’t really matter what they’re doing, they’re most likely doing it together. After all, what better way to get to know your sister than to spend every waking moment of your time together? Plus, it makes it that much easier to coordinate your outfits, which brings us to …
2. When in doubt, match your outfits.
Look at it this way: You don’t have to stress our or fight about who looks better, who’s going to get more attention or who stole what from mom’s closet if you’re both wearing the exact same thing.
3. Sharing is caring.
Yes, yes, we know it sounds like a Barney song, but it’s the truth, and it’s one that Kendall and Kylie live every day. From shoes to modeling campaigns to magazine covers, what’s Kendall’s is Kylie’s, and vice versa. Except, of course, for Yeezys – but to be fair, they can each grab as many pairs of those as they want, limited quantity or no.
4. Keep each other humble.
Your sister knows everything about you: what you were like as a kid, all of your weird habits, that one gross food combination that you secretly love to snack on. She even has photographic proof of your awkward phase, and she will whip it out at the most inopportune moments. But as embarrassing as that it, it’s good to know that no matter how famous you become, or how many Instagram followers you rack up, there will always be someone there who will make sure that you remember where you came from … or take a photo of you when you’re sleeping.
5. It’s okay to be jealous occasionally.
Jealousy is a part of life. Even Kylie got jealous when Kendall’s modeling career started taking off, but what matters is that you don’t let your envy get in the way of your relationship. Besides, you’ve probably got plenty of things that your sister is jealous of, like your super cool Tumblr.
6. Embrace each other’s weirdness.
You’re already totally used to whatever insane, odd or other not-safe-for-Insta behaviors you guys have, so there’s no reason to judge each other about it.
7. Forgiveness is key.
You’re always going to fight with your sister – sorry, there’s nothing you can do about that. But what you can do is work through it … and choose to resolve those issues in a way that doesn’t involve you punching your sister in the face or wrestling her to the ground, Kylie.
8. Let her know you appreciate her.
We’re not saying you’re going to appreciate her every second of the day, but in those moments when you find yourself feeling grateful to have her in your life, let her know just how lucky you feel.
Now, go call your sister. It’ll make Thanksgiving dinner that much easier.
