The actor's daughter, Greer, snags the honor for this year's awards show
Kelsey Grammer‘s daughter, Greer Grammer, has been named Miss Golden Globe 2015 by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
Named after actress Greer Garson, the 22-year-old graduated from the University of Southern California earlier this year as a theater major and tells PEOPLE she couldn’t contain her excitement when she learned she’d been chosen for the honor.
“I screamed and I jumped up and down,” she says. “I was just so happy when the Hollywood Foreign Press Association reached out to me this year. It was such a dream come true.”
Grammer says her dad and mom, Barrie Buckner, were both thrilled when she told them her good news.
“I called them separately and my mom was over the moon and I had to tell her not to tell anybody, because I know that she would have called everyone right off the bat, and same with my dad,” she tells PEOPLE. “They’re so proud. They’re so excited to see me on stage. I can’t wait.”
Since 2011, Grammer has portrayed Lissa on MTV’s Awkward and had a role on the big screen – as Mia in Life Partners in 2014.
The annual title is traditionally given to the daughter or son of a celebrity, and their responsibility is to assist in handing out the awards on the big night.
Greer will share the stage with Hollywood’s A-listers when the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards air on NBC on Sunday, Jan. 11, at 8 p.m. ET.
