Fans at Kelly Clarkson’s recent concert in Buffalo, New York, got a special treat in the form of a cover tune: Clarkson performed Taylor Swift‘s “Shake It Off.”

Clarkson’s soulful version strips down Swift’s dance anthem, only bursting into full-on pop mode for the chorus. “I love that song,” Clarkson said. “Seriously, everyone gives Taylor such a hard time, but she can write a hook – I’m just sayin’.”

Swift – who’s been counting down to Monday’s release of her new album, 1989 – Tweeted about Clarkson’s cover Saturday, saying that Clarkson “slayed” the song.
