A smiling Martin Holmes was spotted bringing a custom-made cake along with plates, forks and napkins to the three-bedroom apartment where his daughter and granddaughter had moved as Katie filed for divorce from Tom Cruise. Asked how the family was doing, Martin Holmes said, “We’re fine, thank you.” PHOTOS: The Holmes-Cruise Family in Happier Times This echoed the sentiments expressed earlier in the day by Katie, 33, who spoke out briefly while stopping by Whole Foods for what looked like barbecue supplies, including hamburger meat, buns, strawberries and bananas. “I’m all right,” Holmes told a reporter, according to New York’s Daily News, while pushing Suri in a shopping car. “Thank you.” Cruise, who turned 50 on Tuesday, was supposed to spend his birthday with Holmes and Suri in the Big Apple but traveled instead to Los Angeles and spent it with his teenage kids, Connor, 17, and Bella, 19. • PHOTOS: Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes’s Whirlwind Courtship Meanwhile, mother and daughter spent that day getting a tasty treat at Sundaes and Cones in New York’s East Village neighborhood. “Katie looked happy and was friendly to the customers and staff while Suri sat on her mom’s lap,” says an eyewitness at the ice cream shop. The pair smiled at each other and licked their way through a nighttime snack.
