Katie Couric is all jazzed up these days with current date Chris Botti, described as a cutie trumpeter who’s played with Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and Sting.

The relationship, which is already a few weeks old, follows the Today host’s recent breakup with producer and partial owner of the Boston Red Sox Tom Werner, 54, after four years together. Couric, 47, met Botti, 42, when he played with Sting on Today, and then was formally introduced to her at a New York party shortly afterwards.

Speaking of the new romance, Botti tells USA Today in a cell phone interview from Germany: “You should see me blushing right now.” He calls Couric “brilliant and beautiful and really, really fun.”

As for her knowing about music, Botti says Katie knows something about it, “but then, she’s up on everything. She’s so intelligent.”

Busy promoting his new CD, titled, When I Fall in Love, Botti claims he’s not following press reports of his link to the TV star, “though I’ve heard about it from friends. It’s been interesting going out in public with Katie, but this is all very new to me. I’m taking it one day at a time.”
