FIRST NORTH AMERICAN TRIP
FIRST $1M FUNDRAISER
Back home, the couple team up for a good cause, hosting the 100 Women in Hedge Funds gala at St. James's Palace on Oct. 13, where they helped raise about $1 million for the Child Bereavement Charity, one of William's causes.
FIRST SOLO ENGAGEMENT
A few weeks later, the Duchess of Cambridge swiftly steps in for Prince Charles at a charity dinner for In Kind Direct at Clarence House on Oct. 26. "You would never know it was her first solo engagement. It was as if she had been trained by the Prince of Wales," the charity's chief executive Robin Boles told PEOPLE. "She was completely natural, professional and charmed everyone."
Days after Kate's 30th birthday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge debut their new addition – a cocker spaniel pup named Lupo! – on a North Wales beach in January.
With William away on a six-week military mission, Kate continues her independent streak, bonding with her father-in-law over arts and crafts at London's Dulwich Picture Gallery on March 15 and catching up with Charles's wife Camilla at a tea party at Fortnum amp Mason food emporium.
FIRST DIAMOND JUBILEE TOUR
FIRST MILITARY ENGAGEMENT
With her husband still away on military duty, Kate brightens up St. Patrick's Day for the Irish Guard, carrying on the royal tradition of passing out shamrocks to officers of the 1st Battalion.

FIRST PUBLIC REUNION
With William back home, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge reunite for their first public event: the London premiere of the Disney nature film African Cats on April 25 – just days before celebrating their first wedding anniversary. On Dec. 3, the couple made the announcement that the world has been waiting for: Kate is expecting their first child.
