People.com Celebrity As It Turns Out, Princess Kate and Kim Kardashian May Not Be That Different After All What does a mega mogul reality star have in common with a real-life princess? Kim Kardashian West and Princess Kate are more alike than you think By Diana Pearl Published on September 11, 2017 02:23 PM Share Tweet Pin Email 01 of 13 THEY BOTH HAVE TWO CHILDREN … Kimkardashianwest.com; Getty Let's start with the basics. Both Kate and Kim have two children. Actually, they first became moms around the same time. Their first children — North West and Prince George — were born within less than two months of one another, North on June 15, 2013 and George on July 22, 2013. They welcomed their second child in the same year, too: Princess Charlotte on May 2, 2015 and Saint West on Dec. 5, 2015. 02 of 13 … WITH A THIRD ON THE WAY Getty(2) And now they're both expecting their third child. Kate and Kim made their respective announcements just a few days apart, though they do differ somewhat. Kate is pregnant for the third time, while Kim is expecting her third child with husband Kanye West via surrogate. 03 of 13 THEY BOTH HAVE ONE BOY AND ONE GIRL Kim Kardashian West/Instagram; Getty But it's not all about the timing. Kim and Kate both have one son and one daughter, though Kate's son is the eldest while Kim's daughter is the first child in the West family. 04 of 13 THEY'VE BOTH HAD HEALTH ISSUES DURING THEIR PREGNANCIES Getty(2) Kate has battled hyperemesis gravidarum (acute morning sickness) during all three of her pregnancies, while Kim dealt with preeclampsia and placenta accreta, and worried she'd develop gestational diabetes during both her pregnancies. The serious nature of Kim's health problems were the reason she and Kanye chose to use a surrogate for their third child. 05 of 13 THEY'VE BOTH OPENED UP ABOUT THEIR KIDS' PERSONALITIES Kimkardashianwest.com; Getty Kim is a notorious oversharer (after all, she rose to fame on a reality show) while Kate is equally well-known for being tight-lipped about her personal life. One thing that both women will chat about? Their children's personalities. Kim has shared that North doesn't like her brother Saint, while Kate says two-year-old Princess Charlotte "rules the roost." 06 of 13 THEY BOTH DRESS THEIR KIDS IN DESIGNER DUDS Kim Kardashian West/Instagram; Getty Their kids are growing up on opposite sides of the world, with styles that reflect their lives — trendy designers for L.A.-living Saint and North, while London dwellers George and Charlotte stick to classic pieces — but their wardrobes share one distinct trait: Their clothes are pricey designer pieces. North may be in Supreme and George is in Pepa & Co., but for both, replicating their looks on your own little one will cost a bit of cash. 07 of 13 THEY BOTH SNAP PHOTOS OF THEIR KIDS Kim Kardashian West/Instagram; Getty Like most moms, both Kate and Kim can't resist snapping photos of their two kids. Kate's pictures of Charlotte and George are routinely released for their birthdays by the palace, while Kim shares her own photos on her Instagram. 08 of 13 THEY'RE BOTH FASHION ICONS Getty(2) Their respective styles couldn't be more different: Kim likes nude bodycon pieces, while Kate wears modest Alexander McQueen dresses and fascinators. What they have in common is their influence: Whatever Kate and Kim wear has a tendency to sell out — and fast. 09 of 13 BOTH OF THEIR NAMES START WITH A 'K' Getty(2) Stating the obvious, but hey, it's worth mentioning. 10 of 13 THEY BOTH HAD FAIRY TALE WEDDINGS Def Jam; Getty Kate's may have been broadcast to billions (yes, with a B!) from London's historic Westminster Abbey, while Kim's was a more intimate affair in Florence, Italy, but both were equally over-the-top and envy-worthy. 11 of 13 BOTH ARE ULTRA-TIGHT WITH THEIR SISTERS Getty(2) Kim may have more sisters than Kate does, but they both share the same sort of very close relationship with their siblings. Kim's closeness with Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian is documented on their show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, while we catch brief glimpses of Kate and Pippa Middleton's at family events, like the latter's wedding last May. 12 of 13 BOTH COME FROM ENTREPRENEURIAL FAMILIES Getty(2) It's no surprise that both women grew up to be so influential, as they had great examples in the forms of their respective mothers. Kris Jenner and Carole Middleton are both self-made women. Middleton started her company, Party Pieces, when her children were young, and it's since evolved into a multi-million dollar business. And Jenner, well, what hasn't she done? Thanks to her, her family has become a bona fide empire. 13 of 13 BOTH OF THEIR HUSBANDS TRAGICALLY LOST THEIR MOTHERS AT A YOUNG AGE Getty(2) A sad similarity between the two is that both of their husbands — Kanye and William — lost their mothers at a young age. Princess Diana, of course, died in a 1997 car crash in Paris when William was 15 years old, while Kanye's mother, Donda West, died 10 years later of heart disease following surgery. Kanye was 30 years old at the time.
