As Ellen DeGeneres put it herself: Hold on to your crumpets!

The talk show host – who has been jokingly lobbying for an invite to the royal wedding – announced on her show Wednesday that she and Kate Middleton are actually distant cousins.

“Our trusty genealogists have been at work on Kate Middleton’s genealogy,” wrote Tom Champoux from The New England Historic Genealogical Society in a letter to Ellen.

“As we were doing the research, we discovered that you are related to Kate via a man named SIr Thomas Fairfax and his wife Agnes Gascoigne,” the letter continued. “You are distant cousins – 15th – but cousins still the same.”

“I’m related to Kate!” Ellen declared excitedly. “I’m definitely invited to the wedding now!”

“Kate, ‘Cuz, let me know where you’re registered,” she joked. “I have a Pier 1 and a Target real, real close to my house.”
