Kate Gosselin Takes Off Her Wedding Band

A month after filing for divorce, the reality star finally removes her ring

As her estranged husband gallivants around New York City and the Hamptons with other women, Kate Gosselin has taken a more subtle step toward a new life: She’s removed her wedding band.

The reality star was photographed Friday for the first time without her ring during a coffee run near her Pennsylvania home.

Just last month, removing the ring seemed like a symbolic gesture that the mother of eight was not yet ready to make. “I haven’t taken off my ring,” she told PEOPLE at the time. “It would devastate my kids. It’s not necessary. I was looking at it while I was in the shower this morning, and I thought, I’m not taking it off. I’m not ready.”

Ready or not, Kate’s husband Jon has made it clear he’s prepared to move ahead into single life after a decade of marriage. Jon Gosselin went to Saint-Tropez with his new 22-year-old girlfriend, Hailey, Glassman, rented a bachelor pad in Manhattan, then holed up at Michael Lohan’s house in Long Island with a tabloid reporter.

As for Kate, her free time has been a little more kid-friendly. On Thursday, she took her two eldest children, Cara and Mady, 8, to a Jonas Brothers concert in Philadelphia, Pa.

“She gave a couple of waves and smiled to the crowd,” an observer tells PEOPLE. “She seemed like she was in a good mood She looked great and got the VIP treatment.”
