Kate Gosselin Says Son Collin Is 'Getting Precisely What He Needs' at Live-In Learning Facility
Kate revealed to PEOPLE in August about how she came to the hard decision to enroll her 12-year-old in the program
Kate Gosselin previously enrolled her son Collin in a program away from home that is helping him reach his full potential — and she recognizes now that it’s “precisely what he needs.”
In August, the mother of eight exclusively opened up to PEOPLE about how she came to the hard decision to enroll her 12-year-old in the program.
“Collin has special needs,” Kate said. “[There’s] a fairly fluid diagnosis of what those needs are, but he needs to learn certain strategies to help him deal with things. This has been a struggle we’ve had for a very long time, and it’s one I’ve dealt with on my own.”

Now, Kate realizes that the program, which is helping Collin “learn the skills he needs to be the best him he can be,” has been a help to everyone.
“This is all new to me, and to our family,” Kate, 41, says about one of her sextuplets living away from home.

“I don’t know what the road ahead entails, but I’m very happy with the care that he’s getting, and am still completely comforted by the fact that he is so clearly exactly where he needs to be, getting precisely what he needs — it comforts me as a mother, because when you, as a mom, can’t give your kids what they need, it is a huge comfort to find people who can,” she added.
Although the Kate Plus 8 star misses her son living at home with the rest of the family, she is at peace knowing “he’s where he needs to be right now, and I can feel good about that.”
Kate Plus 8 returns Nov. 22 (10 p.m. ET) on TLC.
